Solar Solutions

How will my solar array work?

With solar photovoltaic (PV), the sun’s light hits the panels and creates direct current (DC) electricity. Inverters then convert the direct current to alternating currents (AC) which are used to power your home, business, farm, or sold to your local power company.

What kind of solar array do I need?

Depending on location, system size, and your energy use, we will install a roof mounted or ground mounted system. Solar systems can be installed on both flat and pitched roofs. If roof space is limited, ground mounted systems can be installed.

What size system do I need?

System size is usually determined by available space and budget. We will conduct a free on-site review and analysis of your available roof or land to verify space and shading. Another consideration is your electric bill and the rate or tariff you are on with the utility. Systems can offset a significant portion of your bill. We will analyze your bills to determine the appropriate system size.

What maintenance is required?

Solar systems are low maintenance- requiring occasional cleaning (rinsing with a hose a few times a year) to maintain output. Hannah Solar will establish monitoring equipment to ensure ongoing solar production data. If any problems occur, Hannah Solar has a highly trained maintenance staff that will be at your service.

How durable are solar panels?

Solar panels are surprisingly strong and durable. They are covered by tempered glass similar to your car windshield. Panels are guaranteed for 25 years or more and designed to withstand all the potential rigors of the environment including snow, strong winds, and typical hail. Solar panels are tested to UL-1703 standards. Panels are mounted on racking systems based on wind load calculations which meet the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) standards.

Will the system produce power on cloudy days?

Yes, the system will still generate some electricity, although production will be lower. Generally, the system will produce power from sunrise to sunset, reaching its maximum output between noon and 1 pm.

How will I know if the system is producing electricity?

The inverter’s LED screen shows production data. You can compare your actual production to our estimates to ensure your system is on track. Production monitoring can also be accessed online via a simple web-based portal.

How do I apply for solar incentives in my location?

Hannah Solar makes filing of incentives paper work easy on you. We complete local, state and federal paper work – all you do is approve, sign, and send.

What incentives are available?

In order to drive investment in renewable energy in the US, the federal government established the “Investment Tax Credit” (ITC). The ITC is a 30% Federal tax credit. 30% of the total cost of a solar installation can be credited against your Federal income taxes. Both businesses and individuals can take advantage of this credit.

Businesses also receive bonus and accelerated depreciation that can save you another 30-35%.

State incentives are also available. Call us about any Southeastern state for specifics.

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is currently purchasing solar power and will pay the base rate plus 9 cents per kWh.

When should I invest in solar?

Now is the best time to invest in solar based on the technology, low cost, and available incentives. The benefits of using solar power will continue as long as you use electricity to power homes and buildings.

The available government incentives are intended to reward early adopters of solar. The US is committed to reducing its dependence on dirty fossil fuels. Your investment now in renewable energy is important to our energy future.

Battery Storage

Why do I need an energy storage system?

The number one reason our customers choose to install an energy storage system is to have a reliable backup system in the event of a grid outage. The added benefit to solar + storage is that you can enjoy the benefits of your system year- round and not just when the grid goes down.

Can I backup my whole home?

Yes, it is possible to back up your whole home, but it’ll probably take a larger more expensive system to do so. We find that selecting circuits for a partial home backup is a more cost-effective solution.

Is energy storage clean?

Yes, energy storage has no direct emissions and helps to cut emissions as it takes more load off traditional generation.

Does a battery system qualify for renewable energy tax credits?

Yes, when installed with renewable energy generation such as solar. Storage systems that are set to charge primarily from the grid do not qualify for renewable energy tax credits.

How much does a battery storage system cost?

There are several things to consider when pricing a battery storage system such as electrical installation, permitting and design. There might be additional equipment to install such as an inverter or protected loads panel. There are several storage systems available today and each are a little different.
